How the three sessions work
Every activity is built into the slides, so the only planning is deciding when sessions two and three fall. There’s nothing to buy or gather. The worksheets and certificates below are only needed if your form would rather write on paper.
Understanding screen time
- The research: brain, self-control, concentration and sleep, each with its own citation.
- Activity 1: an honest, in-the-moment reflection on current screen habits.
- Introduces the Screen Time Tracker and the two awards.
- Activity 2: a personal screen time reduction plan, one realistic change at a time.
Midway through the term
- A one-slide recap of the research, for anyone who needs reminding.
- Activity 3: a midpoint reflection, comparing back to session one’s reflection and plan.
- A mid-term look ahead to the two awards, revealed once the tracker closes for the term.
Wrapping up the term
- Activity 4: a final reflection across the whole term, from first estimate to last.
- The two awards are revealed directly from the Screen Time Tracker.
- Award certificates ready to print and hand out on the spot.
The tracker and its awards
The Screen Time Tracker is a single spreadsheet: one row per student, updated weekly by you across the term. It totals and ranks each student automatically, and tracks the trend in their screen time as the weeks go on.
Before your first session
- Read through the slides, so you can field questions on the research
- Add your form’s names to the tracker
- Decide roughly when sessions two and three will fall, so the tracker has time to build up first
- Print the worksheets and certificates, only if your form prefers paper
